BABY UPDATE: EIGHTEEN MONTHS

It's been a year and a half with my best girl and the best and only way to describe my life so far is like going on a roller coaster ride- except one that is fucking scary but is definitely worth taking over and over again.

I blinked and here we are. So far it's always been just the two of us- no nanny no nothing- just help from our family. I have never been away from Arya for longer than half an hour (or not even) and I'd like (and hope) to keep it that way. I co-sleep, I breastfeed, and I sling. We talk english most of the time and I prefer books over gadgets. Though I don't encourage it, I sometimes let her watch stuff on my phone but I make sure as much as possible that I watch with her because I think it's really important to actually be there for her. There's really no perfect way to be a mom and there's no point in trying to be perfect anyway because at the end of the day, no matter how good or shitty we have been as a parent, our babies will always look at us the same way they have always been- like they're the luckiest to have us as their mothers. Truth is, they're not because we are.

Anyway tese past three months (March through May) we've been staying with my dad away from home but still feels like home, definitely.

So I give you- my 18 month old toddler- in bullets.

  • She takes a two to two and a half nap a day
  • Nurses a lot more than she does before and yes, still nurses herself to sleep
  • Still loves being worn
  • She says "Nah" and "Yeah" a lot but definitely knows the difference. "Do you like ice cream?" "Yeah", "Get off the bike now!" "Nah"
  • So far can say a lot of stull like, please, shoes, ears, eyes or ice, teeth, ball, mama, daddy, ma'am, lolo, (re)move, more, keys, car, book, (air)plane- a lot, really and I'm just so damn proud
  • She's a stage 5 clinger, most of the time and by most I mean probably 90% she just doesn't like to be put down-  not that I'm complaining it's just... one of us is getting heavier and heavier and it's not me. Also she never lets me out of her sight
  • Whenever she wants to open something or just wants something, she puts her hands together and says "please" it's like the cutest thing
  • Arya understands stuff like "put your hands above your head", "put your shoes on", "move over", "lie down", "get mama's phone", "close the door", "knock first, always", "where is mama?" and a lot of other things. We talk to each other a lot and y'all, we don't do baby talking.
  • She appreciates stuff. If you don't still know this, I buy all of her stuff online and whenever a delivery guy arrives or like if there's a parcel, she knows it's for her and when I open it, she'd offer to try it on, gets pretty hysterical and with just one look at her, you'll know that she's happy. It's the reason I ended up buying her more than 10 pairs of shoes
  • She picks her own shoes and cries like hell whenever forced to wear something she's not in the mood for
  • Has a wee bit of attitude, like when I'm trying to dress her up and decides she doesn't like it or not comfy in it, she'd give me shit about it. And she loves giving me the stink eye, so there's that
  • Thinks everything is hers and asks me to back her up whenever someone tries to take what's "hers"
  • Basically I'm the only person she trusts. Whenever she feels upset or just needs a hug, she comes running towards me. Always.
  • She knows her body. Her eyes, nose, ears, teeth, tongue, cheeks, chin, neck, forhead, belly, bum, toes, feet, legs, her hand (and the other one), hair, head, elbows, knees. If you ask here where they are and if she likes you, she'll tell you.
  • She loves blowing kisses.
  • Knows the answers to questions "What does the doggy say?" Or goats, birds, cows, frogs, monkeys, lions, cats, pigs and stuff
  • Arya's favorite book is Usborne's peep inside the farm because cows and chickens and birds and cats- she loves 'em
  • She likes playing hide and seek but freaks out if after one minute she doesn't find me
  • Favorite song at the moment is "Five little birds" and refers to them as "Tweet tweet tweet"
  • She loves going down the slide or basically everything that makes anything slide down and calls it "weeee"
  • She has a thing for raisins, fish and donuts. And not just any donuts- she loves dd's choco butternut
  • She hates bread, anything that is too sweet, carrots, pumpkins, papaya and grapes. Also not a fan of anything cheese
  • So thankful that so far at this age she's still the happy eater I know her for
  • She knows how to jump- or at least try to
  • She loves ballpits, ice cream without the cone and toy cars
  • Any form of body of water attracts her, swimming pool, a stream, puddles, a pale full of water, if she sees any of it, she'll go for it
  • She runs like a cheetah
  • At 18 months she's a professional spoon and fork user
  • Arya's not scared of anything. Except ants because they bite like shit and needles because after getting bitten by a stray cat and had to be punctured multiple times I'm telling you, the fear is clear
  • I don't know if it's just me or Arya is just super friendly. We always go to this play place at the mall with like a bunch of kids and some of them are- quite frankly- mean to her. I like to watch and see what she's gonna do and whenever kids (older usually) are being mean to her she just stares at them and tries to be friends and if they don't want to, she just walks away like nothing happened.

I know some would say that these things are a lot or too few but I mean, I try. As a mom, I try and I think that's good enough. So whatever we do or however we try to be a good parent, we should just keep that in mind- that we're enough. And that's what matters the most.
