EFFY'S BOOK REVIEW: IF I STAY

"And that's just it, isn't it? That's how we manage to survive loss. Because love, it never dies, it never goes away, it never fades so long as you hang on to it. Love can make you immoral."

No one really asked me to make a review about this book. I just feel like I should because it's so good and unique (well for me) and sad and it will just make you cry and cry and cry. This book already has an upcoming movie adaptation this August 22. If you want to cry and just cry, you should watch the trailer (Here's the trailer).

If you haven't read the book yet, I fucking strongly suggest you read it now!

So what if, you, your little brother, your mom and your dad got into a catastrophic accident and you're the only one who survived and you get to choose whether you die with them or you stay and live as an orphan... What would you do?

This is If I Stay by Gayle Forman

SPOILERS!! SPOILERS!! SPOILERS!!

I hated reading sad stories like this one because I know I wouldn't be able to stop crying about it if I do. Just like what happened to me after reading A walk to remember. I literally broke down crying back then. But anyway I ended up reading it anyway because it was just sitting right there on my shelf waiting for me to pick it up and read it (not literally pick it up because the shelf I'm talking about is the iBooks app shelf on my iPhone).

Anyway, not the typical boy-girl love story you were expecting, really. But of course there's a love story (I think that's pretty much what novels are about). It honestly didn't matter to me that much because my focus was on her family pretty much all throughout the book. So she has an out-of-body experience like she gets to watch her own body in a coma while her whole family's waiting for her to wake up. Then there's her rock star boyfriend, Adam and her best friend Kim, struggling to get inside the ICU to see her.

As she watches her own memory, she realizes she has to make a decision if she is to wake up and try to live her life without her mom, her dad, her little brother, as an orphan, or to let go and die with her family. And then there was her Gramps, who in her state tells her that it's okay if she thinks she needs to go. That's the part where I was like 'fuck this book is making me cry I should sleep now' so

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT THIS BOOK
1. Adam - I would actually marry this guy if I could; I didn't expect him to do what he did in the book. (that's for you to find out, btw)
2. I like her parents. They're cool and it's sad that they died, I wish they didn't but whatever. To that I say, we should all love our parents but I wouldn't say why because we don't need a reason to do so- that's just how it works and we have to treasure every minute and every second of our lives with them because they're our parents for a reason.
3. I also love how music is a big part of this book like you know, almost all the characters are musicians.

I know in real life we don't really get to choose whether we live or we die. It's not up to us. And I'm not so sure if we'd get to watch our memories before our eyes when we die, but I think it's best if we create good ones that we could watch while eating popcorn, just in case.

Love,
Bunny
